These Days

June 20, 2024

One of my all time favorite songs is surely These Days, written by Jackson Browne. Besides some incredibly simple but effective lyrics, this is one of the few songs that works no matter how it is played, in what key it is played and with what instruments it is played. It is just that good of a song!

What makes it all the more remarkable is that it was written when Jackson Browne was only 16. The song was first recorded by Nico in 1967. (Personally, I don’t like this version at all.) Over the years, it has been covered by many, many artists including Glenn Campbell, Gregg Allman and yes, even by me.

The song is supreme in its composition and lyrics. If you are not familiar with it, please give it a listen and let me know what you think. I would really like to see your comments here!

Here’s Jackson Browne’s version:

Here’s my cover from back in 1979. Give it a listen as well.
