Just wrote to you about another book, but just noticed you also reviewed Gorillas In The Mist. You might be interested to know that I was living in Japan when the movie came out. My Japanese was getting better at that time, but it was far from perfect, but like all foreign languages, you might be great in one area, and weak in another. I went to a video store (still had them back then) and wanted to get it. Couldn’t find it on the shelves, and the best I could do was tell the Japanese clerk that I wanted a movie named “something like Monkeys In The Rain.” Got an odd look, and of course no luck finding the movie. Good thing I wasn’t trying to rent African Queen. No telling what I might have requested. John Duresky

My brother lives in Guanajato. He’s been there for years. J’ai appris le français à l’école mais c’est loin d’être parfait.

Hi Allen – I recently purchased one of the few The Actors Ring off of eBay (can you believe it?!) It is not engraved with initials or dated but it appears that maybe the ring was sized at some point in time. I would never have known its history had it not been for your blog. Hallo Herr Rizzi,
bin im Internet auf ein Foto des ehemalige Rizzi Haus ihrer Verwandten in Cloz gestoßen. In diesem Haus hat mein Vater bis zu seinem Tod 2013 gewohnt. Eine Wohnung in diesem Haus ist seit 1998 in meinem Besitz. 1 Stock. Benutze Sie als Ferienwohnung, da ich in Bayern lebe.
Die Geschichte ihrer Vorfahren habe ich mit großem Interesse gelesen. In Cloz gab und gibt es viele Rizzi sowie Zanoni, dass ist mein Nachname. Bin 1970 in Deutschland geboren, kenne aber Cloz seit meiner Kindheit an, da oft in den Ferien dort.
Meine Ferienwohnung mit Garten steht zum Verkauf, vielleicht hätten Sie ja wieder Interesse daran.

Vor einigen Jahren habe ich ein Buch über dieses Haus angefangen. Ich recherchiere immer noch. Meine Familie lebte mehrere Jahrhunderte in diesem Haus. Wenn Du Geschichten zu erzählen haben, würde ich sie gerne hören.

Hallo Herr Rizzi,
ja ich bin der Sohn, der Jüngste von fünf Kindern. Es freut mich das Sie anscheinend meinen Vater auch gekannt haben. Er ist 1925 in Cloz geboren und auch dort beerdigt worden. Er hat früher immer erzählt, dass viele aus Cloz nach Amerika ausgewandert sind. Es standen auch einige Häuser leer, wo die Besitzer in Amerika lebten.
Dass das so genannte Rizzi Haus alt ist wusste ich, aber so alt wiederum nicht. Als Kind hat mich immer der Keller fasziniert. Ich habe oft zu meinem Vater gesagt das ich dort graben möchte um Schätze zu finden, aber gegraben habe ich nie. Mein Vater hat immer darüber gelacht, aber wer weiß was man finden würde. Auf jedem Fall sind die Gewölbe und die Mauern aus großen Steinen sehr massiv und fest. Eine Bauweise die die Menschen damals gut konnten.
Haben Sie noch Verwandtschaft in Cloz? Ich noch einige und in der Umgebung.
Vielleicht könnten Sie mir ja ein paar alte Bilder vom Haus senden, auch wie es innen ausgesehen hat, falls Sie welche besitzen.
Es hat mich sehr gefreut das ich durch Zufall auf Sie gestoßen bin.

Mein Vater ist in Cloz geboren und auch dort beerdigt worden. Er hatte mir öfter früher erzählt, dass damals einige Leute aus Cloz nach Amerika ausgewandert sind. Es standen auch einige Häuser leer in meiner Kindheit, wenn wir in den Ferien dort waren. In dieser Gegend waren die Menschen immer gelassener als in Deutschland. Die Zeit stand da mehr still als in Bayern und es veränderte sich nicht so schnell etwas.

Dear Allen, I finished your book “Our First Year” last evening and left a review on Amazon. I thoroughly enjoyed it. As you know, my mother was from Milano and so I could relate to so many of the things you were saying about Italy and the culture!
