Hymn To The Fallen

May 31, 2021

Remembering DDay 2021.

Most of you have heard pieces of John Williams’ Hymn To The Fallen via the film Saving Private Ryan. Here is a wonderful video with the full score set against a backdrop of photos that are sure to move you. If you are an American, the pictures and sheer numbers will bring you to tears. I am equally sure that this video will resonate deeply in other parts of the world as well. If you watch just one video this year, watch this one and ponder the history and future of our great nation. I personally thank you for doing so.

The next time you see one of our veterans in public (regardless of age, rank or sex), I also strongly urge you to go up straight away to that person and thank them sincerely for their service. Believe me, that small genuine act would mean a lot to so many.

  1. Beautiful posts, Allen. Last night I watched the PBS Memorial Day special. The first time I noticed (not sure if it was done it was done this way) a professional actor or actress (same sex, race, and approximate age) of the person whose story they were telling. The first one was a Vietnam-era nurse who had PTSD and didn’t realize it. She got help from the VA, the only female in a group of 9 veterans. It helped. She visited the Vietnam Memorial and a veteran came up to ask her if she was a nurse in Vietnam. When she said yes, he said, “Thank you for your service. It meant a lot to those of us who were over there.” He was the first person who had ever thanked her for her service and it meant the world to her.

    Thanks Allen,
I have played it several times today. It brings back many sad moments of the event. Although, as far as I know: I don’t know of anyone that went down with the ships on that date.
I hope you and your wife are doing well. We been pretty busy here. Our daughter from Georgia arrived last Tuesday with her grand kids (our great, great) one is 22 months and the other is 8 going on 20!
Needles to say we have been pretty busy with all the activities, besides the beach and entertain with Amazon Echo box!
They’ll be leaving Thursday and our California grandkids will be coming, thereafter.
There is much more. However, I don’t want to take much more of your time.
Stay well and will call-in soon.
    Best regards, Ernest & Barbara

  4. Thank you so much for sharing that video. Seeing the thousands of graves one after another after another is overwhelming. So much sacrifice so I can live in peace and enjoy all the freedoms America offers.
