Merry Christmas 2016

Hello Family and Friends,

Merry Christmas (Buon Natale / Bon Nadel / Frohe Weihnachten / Joyeux Noël / Feliz Navidad) from Etowah, North Carolina and Tret, Italy! Christmas is almost here and we want to catch you up on our 2016 as well as invite all of you to share your year with us.

Our year started out a little rough as Allen had an emergency endarterectomy on New Year’s Eve. The doctors found that his right carotid artery was both blocked and had two aneurisms. They removed the entire artery. He now sports a new Gortex graft. The good news is that it is waterproof. If you want to read the full account, you can find it here: https://rizziallen.wordpress.com/2016/01/08/endarterectomy-this-ones-straight-off-personal/ Allen is fine now and back doing it all from music to fishing.

Our summer in Italy this year was filled with work and relaxation. We did a lot of work in our garden and again tried to sell the property. We had a few lookers but no sale at the end of the day. We managed to get to all of the local festivals and spend time with our many good friends. Meran is one of our favorite places and we always enjoy the view of the Tirol Castle from our table at the nearby Ruster Keller Restaurant in Algund.

Back in North Carolina, when the gardening is done, we are always streamside fishing and enjoying the scenic wonders of this state. While Western North Carolina is full of rivers and lakes, we are frequent visitors to the North Mills River where we fish, eat a lunch together and just enjoy the scenery and quiet. Nature abounds andiIt has become one of our very special places. Come visit us and we’ll be glad to show you the area.

Lastly, a special note for a special person we lost this year: Zita Bertagnolli. Zita was Allen’s second cousin, although we always affectionately called her “Aunt Zita.” She passed away shortly before her 99th birthday. She was a wonderful lady and a very special friend to both of us. She has left us all with many great memories and a special appreciation for life’s gifts. People like Zita are few in life and we are grateful to have known her.

We wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a new year full of health and happiness. Follow your dreams, please stay in touch and remember our door is always open, whether it is in Italy or in the United States. Merry Christmas with all our love.
